Students proudly achieve their UNM degree

All around New Mexico, students are able to pursue their UNM degree while staying close to jobs and families in their home community. Bachelor & Graduate Programs provide options for completing requirements in the classroom, by ITV, through correspondence and online. Persistence, hard work, and dedication wins the diploma. After celebrating with family, friends and colleagues, graduates are prepared to take on greater challenges and new roles in their community with their degree from UNM.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) at UNM

MOOCs provide a global reach for UNM. UNM's first MOOC was held in Spring 2014. 48,123 students enrolled from 187 countries in Web Application Architectures, instructed by Greg Heileman. The second offering of this course has already attracted 10,756 enrollments in 152 countries for Fall 2014. The addition of Curanderismo: Traditional Medicine, taught by Cheo Torres, has 9,554 enrollments to date from 127 countries for Fall. Additional courses have been approved by UNM's partner, Coursera.

UNMCE offers non-credit instruction in Business & Technology for professionals advancing their careers in over 60 certificate programs, with custom training, business analysis and individual consultation services available. In Personal Enrichment, a wide variety of exciting classes are offered. There is something for everyone — languages, fitness, cooking, travel and more. With the Osher learning community for ages 50 and up, Youth Programs, and the Early Childhood Services Center, UNMCE improves the quality of life for all ages.

UNM Online and Independent Study Courses

Aspiring students may choose from correspondence courses and a growing list of online classes to fulfill academic requirements and bring flexibility to their daily schedule. Online and correspondence classes are developed and instructed by UNM faculty and appear on a transcript in the same manner and count for the same credit as campus-based courses. In addition to hundreds of lower-division, upper-division and graduate classes, UNM Online offers a growing number of degree-completion programs.

Bachelor & Graduate Programs offer students throughout New Mexico and beyond the opportunity to achieve a UNM degree without leaving their community. Many degree programs may be completed entirely online.

Courses are offered in the classroom or by Interactive Television (ITV) at Statewide Education Centers, online, or by correspondence. Student success is supported by advisement provided at our Education Centers at select community colleges and UNM’s own branch campuses.

Online & Independent Study

With built-in flexibility for the student’s choice of best time and place to learn, both UNM Online and Independent Study courses offer convenience and greater access to a UNM degree for students at Albuquerque main campus as well as other locations. Core and upper division classes are developed in collaboration with and taught by UNM faculty.

Online students enjoy interaction with their instructors and fellow students through online chats, discussion boards, email, and other tools featured in Blackboard Learn.

Lifelong Learning

UNM Continuing Education (UNMCE) offers non-credit courses, certificates and custom training in Professional Development and information technology. Personal Enrichment courses include arts, travel, languages, fitness, cooking and more.

Osher is a membership learning community for ages 50 and up. Quality classes and camps  for children and teenagers are offered by the Youth Program. The Early Childhood Services Center helps New Mexico communities to address early childhood care and education.
