Faculty Training & Support
The Faculty Services & Online Course Development group in Extended Learning offers a wide range of support options to faculty on the main campus of UNM. Each fully online faculty is assigned a Course Designer to assist them with the pedagogical and technological considerations of teaching online. We also offer a range of workshops on our Learning Management System and a 6-week course covering the ins and outs of teaching online. In addition, we offer Open Lab sessions for our web-enhanced faculty and can come to your department to cover specific topics.
If you are teaching a fully online course, our course designers are here to help you design and build a course that follows best practices for online learning. Their pool of knowledge and experience means that you are getting the backing of the whole group as you build and teach your course. They are here to help support you by teaching you how to accomplish your goals online and troubleshoot when things don’t go as planned. You aren’t alone in this journey to teaching online—consult with your designer!
We offer a variety of workshops on different topics related to the Learning Management System at UNM. Each workshop is followed by a Drop-in Session where faculty can get help from a course designer on issues specific to their own course. Some of our Workshops are offered as webinars, please see the training schedule for more details.
Introduction to Teaching Online
A minimum of five times per year, we offer an Introduction to Teaching Online course. This is a 6-week intensive course for faculty who are teaching online—open to all experience levels. Faculty members get a chance to experience an online course as a student (an invaluable experience) while learning more about our LMS and designing an effective online course. This course is co-taught by Mary Willms Wholwend and Jenn Gutierrez, Ph.D. To submit a registration request, visit our training schedule.
Open Labs are an opportunity to work on your section in UNM Learn and receive help as you need it. Lab computers and UNM Learn support staff will be available to answer questions. Pre-registration is not required. To see a list of upcoming UNM Learn Open Lab sessions, please visit our training schedule. You can also contact UNM Learn Tech Support for assistance at http://fastinfo.unm.edu or (505) 277-0857.
